BS VI Technology in Bharatbenz

Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) unveiled the new BS6 compliant range of BharatBenz commercial vehicles for the country. BharatBenz’s new Commercial Vehicle range offers Indian customers the solution they need for the future, setting new benchmarks for medium and heavy-duty trucks with improved fuel efficiency and safety.

The new commercial vehicle Heavy duty trucks (HDT) draws power from OM926 LA engine which is replaced from OM906 LA.And medium duty trucks (MDT) draws power from 4D34i which remains as it is the BS IV.But there has been a change in the exhaust after treatment process for reducing the CO and NOX emissions which are harmful for environment and human being as well.

As we know Daimler India Commercial Vehicle (DICV) uses After Treatment System.that is Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system which is globally proven better And convenient than other system such as Exhaust gas Recirculation (EGR).The SCR uses adblue (urea) which is also called Diesel Exhaust Fluid which is sprayed inside the exhaust pipe before Catalytic Converter so that reaction occurs in Catalytic Converter which results in reducing the harmful gases such as CO and NOX. This is used in BS IV engine.But in BS VI engine After treatment process has been changed and many modifications has been done in engines and as well as in exhaust.In engine cylinder bore is increased so as to take the capacity of the engine to 7.2 liter from 6.4 liter.which helps in terms of much leaner burning of the fuel and which means higher durability and reliability leading to higher life of engine. DICV has also optimized the turbocharger and other accessories.So that the burning of the fuel inside the engine happens at a lean condition to give maximum fuel efficiency.

In After Treatment System(ATS) there are five different pieces which are assembled together.In any unforseen case of need for a change one need not change the complete system.Instead only change the specific part to be replaced.In addition there are more than 80 child parts in this system.That make sure that the serviceability of this system is simple and comes at a very low cost.The gases that comes out of the engine are then treated in ATS,which act as a highly efficient mini chemical factory.There are five stages of processes that happens in this After Treatment system.Within these there are three catalyst Substrates and one filter and one mixer.At each stage,exhaust gas that comes out are filtered for different pollutants.When the exhaust gas passes all these five chambers and exits out of the tail pipe it becomes cleaner and harmless and meets BS VI norms.This gas that comes out of the tail pipe is dispersed using a unique diffuser at the end of the tailpipe.That helps in reducing the dust throw during operations of the vehicles in off-road environment.In addition when the truck is in traffic,the gas that exits out is dispersed because of the diffuser pipe that helps in avoiding disturbance to the pedestrian and two-wheeler drivers.

The ATS has a filter called the Diesel particulate filter.That helps in terms of filtering out the particles come along with the exhaust gas.These pollutants are the cause of huge pollution in the larger cities and this filter ensures filtering these particles.DICV has designed this filter in such a way that it offers a much longer service interval and Thus for most applications the filter would not need cleaning for at least 2 years.In addition to the filter there are specific sensors at different points in this After Treatment System.These sensors are present to monitor and ensures that the entire system is operating in an efficient manner to deliver best performance and better efficiency.Last but not the least DICV has insulated the complete system starting from the engine to the end of the After Treatment system.This helps in two ways,one In protecting people mechanics and operators for not being exposed to high temperature areas and ,two is improving the fuel efficiency.So in totally starting from engine to the end of the tail pipe DICV has made sure that the entire system is designed to give the best fuel efficiency,high reliability,highest safety and also best performance.
