RX 100 The Legendary 100 CC Motorcycle

The RX 100 is a motorcycle manufactured by Yamaha from 1985-1996 and distributed in India by Escorts LTD. At that time Suzuki AX 100 was doing well in 1984 and Demonstrated the potential of small capacity Motorcycles in India. Escorts LTD realised that sales success in smaller displacement bikes are more economically priced and cheaper to run. Thus Launched the RX 100 in 1985.And it turned out to be fierce competetor. The Motorcycle comes with 98 cc two stroke, reed valve, air cooled single cylinder engine with torque induction technology which was introduced in RX 100 predecessor RD 350.The power output produced from this bike is 11 HP @ 8500 RPM and torque produced is 10.39 Nm @ 6500 RPM which found to be very good in 100 cc catogory bike. The transmission found to be a four-speed constant mesh, multiplate clutch. The Brakes we’re kept standard expanding drum(both front and rear). But some Japanese models were equipped with front disc brakes and rear drum brakes. The fuel tank capacity was 10.5 L and fuel consumption was 35-. 45 km/L.
As we know that Rx 100 is considered to be the fastest 100 cc catogory Motorcycle and this is because of its lightweight body, high power output and well power to weight ratio. Even race conductors and authorities often double checked the engine by opening the engine block to make sure that it was actually 100 cc.As a result there is still a high demand for it even if almost 35 years has passed since its production. The bikes were sold in Peacock Blue, Cherry Red and Metallic Black stock colors. The only major changes that the bike underwent was upgrading from a 6-volt electrical system to a 12-volt system with the addition of a CDI (capacitor discharge ignition) system for improved ignition and timing. The bike’s production lasted from November 1985 – March 1996. Stricter emission laws and regulations in India made the continuing production of the RX 100 impossible.

The year 2010 seemed to be a worst for two stroke Motorcycles as registration was banned. The two stroke engines caused a lot of pollution. Several 4 stroke motorcycles were introduced and the two stroke began to disappear from the roads. However motorcycling enthusiasts were never able to get over the fact that RX motorcycles would disappear. But today we can see that there is still high demand for RX 100 motorcycle Due to it’s retro look, best performance and the sound comes from its silencer. Some bikes from 1985-86 may cost upto a lakh according to it’s condition, original spares and restoration quality.which in 1986 A brand new bike was Approximately 20000 INR. There are also Motorcyclist group of RX 100 throughout India. As we can say divided by state, caste, religion and united by RX 100. Also this machine is mostly used for drag races because of its lightweight and well power to weight ratio. Some of the engines are bored till 180 cc for better perfomance.Though we do have some other 100 cc motorcycle such as IND-SUZUKI AX 100,SHOGUN,SAMURAI.But RX 100 is something different from all. Also RX-G,RX 135 4 speed and 5 speed we’re introduced further but can’t make it well as RX 100.I think this is the only bike whose price has never depreciated.Hence the slogans “BORN TO LEAD” and “AHEAD OF 100’s” are justified by this machine.
